Hugo Chavez Pisses On Women

Chavez and the UN have had some fun lately, showing a lot of sympathy for Madman Ahmadinejad and the Arabic world.

According to Madman Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez "holds revolutionary and lofty points of views". You know, ideas like himself being the Boss in Venezuela for another 25 years...

But this apparent harmonious affinity between Venezuela and the "stone-women-to-death"-Iran, brings along another issue:

Of course Venezuela and Iran have strategic political and economic interests in each other based on their roles as oil producers.

And one expects Chavez to condemn all U.S. military threats against Iran.

But there is no excuse for declaring solidarity with a theocratic regime that treats women like sub-humans. By embracing Ahmadinejad, Chavez is adding steam to the growing and dangerous alliance between left-wing and right-wing anti-imperialism.

In this equation, the only thing that matters is opposition to U.S. military power. Women's rights, worker's rights, student's rights--the things that are supposed to matter to socialists, progressives and people of conscience--be damned.

Chavez appears not to have noticed that the current government of Iran has turned Iran into a country where gender apartheid and hatred of women are enshrined in law.

Regime of Violent Repression
This is a country where women are stoned to death for the "crime" of adultery, buried up to their necks and pelted in the face and head with stones until they die, where women have no right to divorce or child custody, are legally forced to veil under threat of physical beating or imprisonment, can't travel without the permission of a husband or father, where their testimony in a court of law is considered half that of a man, and where political dissent of any kind, for women and men, is punishable by imprisonment, often torture and death.

This is the government that Chavez compares to his own as a "heroic nation," one which he even deems "revolutionary."

Chavez's lack of concern for women's rights in Iran is all too common among male leftists. Among too many of them, the status of women is often simply not on the radar screen. If it does get mentioned, it's often dismissed as an issue of "culture."

The insidious use of the word "culture" implies that women are brutally subjected not through force and violence, but because they or their "culture" wants it that way, and therefore it's OK.

Hey, Hugo! It´s never wise to insult a woman, and less her intelligence...

With the non-intended help from the UN (btw, did you notice HC wants to relocate you?), we´ve been able to witness the true colors of Chavez and his best pal Ahmadinejad:

Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran last week spoke on a stage larger than they deserve. Their addresses to the United Nations General Assembly ably demonstrated they are petty tyrants in charge of nations mired in Third World misery precisely because of the kind of leadership they provide.

Still, their speeches were useful. They illustrated plainly for Americans that there is no shortage of lunatics in the world.

German opera house dumps Mozart opera depicting Mohammed

Berlin- One of Germany's leading opera houses, Deutsche Oper Berlin, announced Monday that it was cancelling a controversial production because of the likelihood that it might offend Muslims. The original opera, Idomeneo by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, makes no reference to Islam, but director Hans Neuenfels introduced a scene to his production that depicts the decapitated heads of the Prophet Mohammed, Jesus Christ, the Buddha and the Greek god Poseidon.

It caused outrage at the premiere in 2003. The opera company said it was cancelling plans to revive the show next month after advice from security authorities in Berlin that the performances posed an "incalculable" security risk.

Others, including Germany's top security official, Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble, condemned the decision, which came ahead of a conference on Islam planned for Wednesday.

"That is crazy," Schaeuble told reporters in Washington, where he was holding meetings with U.S. officials. "This is unacceptable."

Political and cultural figures throughout Germany condemned the cancellation. Some said it recalled the decision of European newspapers not to reprint satirical cartoons about Muhammad, after their publication in Denmark generated a furor among Muslims.

Wolfgang Boernsen, a culture spokesman for Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative bloc in Parliament, accused the opera house of "falling on its knees before the terrorists."

"It is a signal to other stages in Germany, or even elsewhere in Europe, to put no works on their programs that criticize Islam," he said.

Norway: Targeting US Embassy And Discussing To Behead Israeli Ambassador Shomrat

Embassies targeted in terror plot:

Police believe that the four men charged with shooting at Oslo's synagogue also planned acts of terrorism against the US and Israeli embassies.

Israel's ambassador Miryam Shomrat is to have been a concrete target for the four suspects. Newspaper VG reports that they discussed beheading Shomrat in conversations bugged by police.

"The firing on the synagogue was serious enough in itself. If there really were plans to carry out assassinations it is extra serious," Shomrat told VG.

The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) mounted hidden microphones in the Mercedes used by one of the suspects, newspaper Dagbladet reported, citing police sources. These monitored conversations comprise much of the basis for the charges.

The four men charged are a 29-year-old man of Pakistani origin, a 28-year-old Norwegian-Pakistani, a 28-year-old Norwegian of foreign origin, and a 26-year-old Norwegian. All will have a remand hearing on Friday morning.

"Naked Women Worse Than The Bali Bombings"

Don´t underestimate The Islamic Law:

Alleged terror leader Abu Bakar Bashir said TV shows featuring scantily clad women were more harmful than the 2002 Bali nightclub bombings that killed 202 people, the state news agency reported.

The remarks were likely to anger Australia, which lost 88 citizens in the attacks on two crowded nightclubs.

Bashir, recently released from jail after serving 26 months for conspiracy in the bombings, said images of naked or semi-naked woman on television were sinful and chipped away at the moral fiber of Muslim believers.

"So, if I am asked which is more dangerous, naked women or the Bali bombs, then my reply is of course those women in skimpy clothes," Antara quoted him as saying at a public rally calling for the imposition of Islamic law in Indonesia.

Bashir, who denies any terrorist activities, did not elaborate.

The United States and some other Western governments have publicly accused the Muslim cleric of being a key leader in Jemaah Islamiyah, the regional terror group blamed for the Bali bombings and other deadly attacks in Indonesia.

Bashir, 69, has traveled across the predominantly Muslim nation since his release from jail preaching in favor of Islamic law and against the secular government. He previously urged relatives of victims of the Bali bombings to convert to Islam and said the attacks themselves were part of God's will.

All of which is simply beside the point, since nothing the pope has ever said comes even close to matching the vitriol, extremism and hatred that pour out of the mouths of radical imams and fanatical clerics every day, all across Europe and the Muslim world, almost none of which ever provokes any Western response at all. And maybe it's time that it should.

JIDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA — An unprecedented proposal might soon ban women from performing the five Muslim prayers in the immediate vicinity of Islam's most sacred shrine in Mecca. Some say women are already kept away.

The issue has raised a storm of protest across the kingdom, with some women saying they fear the move is meant to restrict women's roles in Saudi society even further. But the religious authorities behind the proposal insist its purpose is to lessen the chronic problem of overcrowding, which has led to deadly riots during pilgrimages at Mecca in the past.

It was unclear why the step was being considered now, but officials say they have growing concerns about overcrowding, particularly at Mecca's Grand Mosque. The mosque contains the Kaaba, a large stone structure that Muslims around the world face for daily prayers.

Denmark arrests nine terror suspects

DANISH authorities have arrested nine people suspected of planning terror acts, the Danish Security Intelligence Service (PET) said today.

The nine were arrested in Denmark's third largest city, Odense, during the night under Danish anti-terrorism laws introduced after the September 11 attacks in the United States.

“We have arrested nine people in Odense under the terrorism laws,” a spokesman for the PET said.

Denmark last month charged five people, following decisions led by Denmark's justice minister.

Four young Muslims arrested last October were charged on August 24 and will face prosecution for trying to obtain weapons and explosives with the intent of carrying out an act of terror.

Earlier in August, Said Mansur, a Moroccan-born Dane accused of inciting fellow Muslims to violent holy war became the first person to face prosecution under the new laws.
